In Memory of Grandma

Sometimes losing someone special inspires you to write. I wrote this, a tribute to my grandma…

It’s hard to find the words to say
Nothing can make this loss okay

I haven’t a memory of a time or place
It’s more the memory of her kind, sweet face

I remember her dark short hair
Her soft cheeks, her skin so fair

I can hear her laugh, though she isn’t here
I can feel her presence, like she’s still near

Her rosy cheeks and smile bright
Her loving arms, clenching me tight

I remember her interest in all that I was
She nurtured and protected as a grandmother does

Her hands playing piano I will always remember
The Christmas’s at Gledhill in late December

The gatherings she hosted with cheery spirit
All the cousins playing, I can still hear it

The bible stories, she taught of Jesus
I feel so sad that she had to leave us

Another thought that stands out in my mind
Is her birthday wishes were like no other kind

She didn’t just call and hope you were home
She sang with all her heart over the phone

Though I can never see her in person again
I will never forget the grandma she had been
