A Thought to Ponder

STOP TRYING TO FIGURE IT ALL OUT

Sometimes we search and struggle to determine what our purpose is and all the while it is sitting right in front of our own eyes, day after day, staring us in the face.  Yet, somehow, we still may not notice it because we get so busy searching for something out there in the world hoping that the universe will magically open up and drop our “purpose” on our laps.  Some people think that if they keep themselves “busy” this is purposeful and meaningful living.  Purposeful living is much simpler than that, but we often miss it because we are so focused on the “search” or keeping busy that we forget our purpose is always offered in the present moment.  Sometimes that purpose is just to be still and quiet so we can hear Gods voice and direction.

I still fall into the rut of thinking that there’s got to be more than this.  I need to be doing something more with my life.  Then I am suddenly reminded that my purpose is to pay attention to the hand I have been given at this very moment with great care and to treasure this reality with purposeful meaning and living.  What do I mean by this?  What I mean is, that in the moment that I feel there is something more I must do to bring more purpose to my life, reality hits and my child gets sick or my husband needs me to help him with his business or a friend calls and needs a listening ear.  In these moments, I realize my purpose is so much simpler than I imagine it to be.  My purpose is to be a nurturing mom to my sick child, to be a helpful companion to my husband and to be a compassionate friend.   It’s not some grand thing I conjure up to gain fame or save the world or be somebody the world views as important in this life or to gain the approval of others because I keep myself so “busy” with stuff jotted down on my agenda or with goals I have set.  I realize that I already am so important and all I need to do is pay attention to the people who share my life and not miss my calling within each moment.

That is not to say we don’t need to be aware of setting goals for ourselves, but not at the expense of living a purposeful life.  We don’t have to be so focused on trying so hard to figure everything out.  There is a bigger plan playing out in the background of our own dreams and aspirations and maybe if we allow ourselves to be part of this bigger plan in a more simplistic and meaningful way, things will unfold for us on a grander scale as we prepare ourselves for something much deeper.

Our plan is not always the right plan or the best plan...

Trying so hard to figure things out can often leave us frustrated and unsatisfied.  "Let go and let God" is a phrase I often have to say.  Sometimes we have to step back and look at what is already going on in our lives, who has been place in our path and what our role can be in all of this at the present moment.  If we can learn to live purposefully in this moment with the people around us and with the circumstances we are given then we will be equipped for bigger plans and dreams to take place all in Gods perfect timing.

In the end, it’s the way you made people FEEL not the countless things you did or said that will be remembered so sharply.

With purpose and meaning,

Sheri

Your blog makes me feel like crying because it took me so long in life to figure out the very thing you are talking about.

Wonderful wisdom! We all need to be reminded of this to keep our lives on track and in balance.
